Pie-in-the-Sky Farm
Bed & Breakfast and Retreat
Marshfield, Vermont

Pie-in-the-Sky Farm Bed & Breakfast and Retreat welcomes you to visit us and stay for a while in our quiet, comfortable Civil War-era Greek Revival 16-room farmhouse. You will experience a well run small inn. Guest living rooms, kitchen, sunroom and entrances are separate from the owner's quarters - yet we are quite accessible whenever you need us.
Pie in the Sky is located in the middle of the rich cultural zone of North Central Vermont and perched just on the edge of Vermont's wild and beautiful Northeast Kingdom .

Off the road just enough to experience real quiet and to hear the birds sing and the frogs croak, we're actually an easy-find -- only a mile and a third off northern New England's major east-west U.S. Route 2.  We're 13 miles from Barre, the "Granite Capital of the World" , 14 miles from Vermont's capital, Montpelier and 20 miles from St. Johnsbury .

Facilities
You may want to reserve at a reasonable rate our full upstairs and downstairs six-room suite with separate entrance which includes three bedrooms, parlor with woodstove, kitchen, two baths, plus a well-stocked library, & hot tub in greenhouse. Or, you may wish to make arrangements to rent just a single or a double room with shared bath. All rooms overlook the fields and gardens. Come visit by the week, by the weekend, or simply for an overnight. Use our facilities for a restful get-away or as a quiet retreat to work on your current project. Please call for details about the spaces available.

Retreats at Pie in the Sky
We have been working with Windcall and Common Council Foundation to provide retreat services to long - time activists. For information about the activist retreat, see link: Windcall at Pie in the Sky

We welcome other retreats and Pie in the Sky has hosted academic groups, funding groups, massage therapists working retreats, and numerous individual retreats for rest, solitude, and focused creative work

What to Do at Pie
Enjoy our spa and greenhouse while gazing out on beautiful views and many gardens. Take a short walk down our hill to visit a large beaver meadow and bird sanctuary (where moose occasionally appear in the spring).   Go feed the sheep outside the barn -- Or, in winter season, go sledding, snow-shoeing or cross-country skiing on our 100 plus acres. Often, there are excellent lightly groomed trails off the snow machine trail that runs back thru the land.  You can ski, or in summer, walk, open meadows, slopes, or down more challenging runs thru the woods and be off in nature completely by yourself, in quiet so deep you can hear a snowflake drop.

Wireless Access
And if you feel you must work, bring your laptop: We are wired!

Depending on the season: Help us out in the vegetable garden or orchard. Take walks on the land to some of the secret corners: the old pond, the maple sugar bush, the Mushroom Woods, the blueberry patch, the open water of the beaver meadow. Or, do absolutely nothing but read a book, enjoy the views and the quiet.

Massage therapy
Or we'll assist you in arranging ahead for a massage with one of the four highly qualified massage therapists. Massage services available either at Pie in the Sky or at home studios of nearby therapists.

Who We Are
The two of us fell in love and then fell in love with the land at Pie-in-the-Sky, where we came to live in 1985. Though we have career backgrounds as academics, we are jack-of-all-trades sorts who like to practice some of the old crafts such as maple syrup, cider and beer making, sewing, knitting, quilt making, jelly making, fruit preserving, and canning the products of our large garden. Our conversational interests turn to history, anthropology, politics, literature, environmentalism, and travel. We live with a couple of cats in a separate wing of the farmhouse from the guest quarters.

Full breakfast served at your convenience early or late in the morning.   As much as we like all-American farm breakfasts, and more gourmet fare, we're used to accommodating all sorts of diets from vegan to macrobiotic to Atkins diet. We are members of Vermont Fresh Network and grow a fair amount of the breakfast fare ourselves.

Guest kitchen refrigerator and cabinets stocked with snacks and tea and coffee-making supplies for your own use at any time.   In most seasons you'll find flowers from greenhouse or garden in your room.

Meetings      Inquiries about booking the use of our various spaces for small to medium-sized meetings are also welcome. We can arrange luncheon catering for your events.
